Describe your sailing background
We took a weeklong course at J World sailing School last May/June of 1997. Then we joined
the sailing club at J Port & sailed their J/80s all summer of 1997. In September
of 97 we purchased the J/32
What boats did you own prior to the J/32?
None
What compelled you to buy a J/32?
The cored hull construction and the fast reputation of J Boats. We wanted a fast cruiser
that was well built.
What is the best feature of the J/32
..second best?
Construction of hull and speed
Have you added any custom features to your J/32?
YES. Fans a must!! Window treatments for privacy, oriental rugs, ultra suede. Also a flow
control valve to equalize the water tanks for balance and drainage. One that will not let
water flow from one tank to the other when the boat is not horizontal. Make provision for
cell phone, 12-volt outlet, pre wire for speakers in cockpit and cabin. Shelves on right
hand side of lazarette, rope hooks in left lazarette. Higher seat for helmsman
(adjustable), I have to stand to see over the boat, water filter for drinking water and we
added a water treatment for the water that sits in the bilge.
Describe your most memorable J/32 voyage.
We love to go overnight to quaint towns. Weve gone to St. Michaels and Oxford. We
rafted up one time with 5 or 6 J105s and had barbecue and cocktails before going
into town on our dingy. Its wonderful
Please share any addl experiences.
We are competitive so whenever were on the water & on the same point of sail as
another boat, we always see whos going faster. When its a boat our size or
bigger that is not a J Boat we always win. We have not officially raced the boat yet.
What are your future plans with the J/32?
We are moving to the West Coast of FL. (Punta Gorda Isles) in Charlotte Harbor. We want to
have our boat in our backyard to sail blue water whenever we can. Well be taking our
J/32. We would love a 35-36ft. cruiser/sailor in the future any in the works?
Note: You need to add a softer jib roller furler control line. We had a lot of
trouble with it jamming- Paul Mikulski finally replaced it with a softer line and now it
works fine.
