The first annual U.S. J/70 Youth Championship was held from August 11th to 13th, 2017. The event was hosted by SAIL NEWPORT, Newport, Rhode Island at their Fort Adams State Park facility.
The winner of the 2017 event was the Santa Barbara YC Youth Team.
In 2018, the 2nd annual U.S. J/70 Youth Championship will be hosted by St Petersburg YC in St Petersburg, Florida from November 16th to 18th, 2018.
The goal of this event is to help develop and build leading-edge junior keelboat sailing programs across America.
The U.S. J/70 Youth Championship (USJYC) is open to thirteen (13) Youth Teams representing US Sailing recognized Sailing Clubs or Organizations.
Sailing clubs may enter more than one team in any qualifier, but may only qualify one team for the USJYC in Newport.
The thirteen Youth Teams will compete on ten provided J/70 Class sailboats with class sails (main, jib, spinnaker). The boats will be identically rigged and tuned at “base settings” that are recommended by the sailmaker.
